Corporate Conference Production in Bangkok: Behind Smith+Nephew’s Regional Academy Event

Smith+Nephew, a global medical technology company working in wound care, orthopedics, and surgical innovation across more than 100 countries, brought its regional Academy conference to Bangkok this year—bringing together 250 healthcare professionals from across the region for a full day of clinical sessions, product exploration, and hands-on demonstrations at the Sheraton Grand Sukhumvit, Bangkok. Magma Event Bangkok handled production, AV, event management, and on-site manpower for the entire event.

A Cinema-Themed Exhibition Experience

Smith+Nephew built the event around a “Directed by Smith+Nephew” concept, turning the exhibition floor into a film-set experience—a registration area styled as a projector reel, branded booths named like movie chapters (“First Episode,” “The Explorers,” “Incision Episode,” and “Timeless Care”), and a photo installation shaped like a classic movie clapperboard. We worked the concept into the physical build: signage, staging, and booth structures that carried the cinema theme consistently across the entire guest journey from the moment attendees walked in.

Interactive Technology on the Floor

Beyond the visual theme, the exhibition floor featured genuinely hands-on content. Attendees used VR headsets to step through immersive product and surgical scenarios, and large interactive touchscreens walked healthcare professionals through wound care education modules — from single-use negative pressure therapy to surgical site infection prevention — in a format built for real clinical audiences, not just a passive product display.

Full Production, AV, and On-Site Management — In-House

Everything on the technical side — staging, AV systems, and on-site crew — was handled directly by Magma’s own production team, not subcontracted out. For a conference of this scale, that meant one team was accountable for the main-stage program from the opening session through a closing panel discussion, including a fully produced 3D video segment for the seated audience—a detail that takes real coordination between production, AV, and content teams to pull off smoothly for 250 people at once.

Why Bangkok Works for Regional Medical and Corporate Conferences

Events like this are a good example of why international companies keep choosing Bangkok for regional conferences: five-star venues like the Sheraton Grand Sukhumvit, direct flight access from across Asia, and a production infrastructure that can support technically complex programs—VR stations, large-format screens, immersive video—without the compromises that come with a less developed events market. If you’re weighing where to hold a regional conference or corporate event, corporate event planning in Thailand covers what to expect and how the process works when your team is planning from overseas.
